Whether you need notarization for contracts, affidavits, property deeds, or business agreements, these services provide the assurance that your documents meet the required legal standards.

RANGE OF NOTARY SERVICES

Types of Notary Public

Document Verification

Description

The most common notary service. It confirms the identity of the signers and that they understand what they're signing.

What's Involved

The notary checks identification, witnesses the signing, and applies an official seal or stamp to confirm authenticity.

Certifying Copies

Description

Certifying that a copy of a document is a true and accurate reproduction of the original.

What's Involved

The notary compares the copy against the original, verifies accuracy, and adds a seal or statement confirming the certification.

Powers of Attorney

Description

Preparing and notarizing a power of attorney, which grants someone else the authority to act on your behalf in legal or financial matters.

What's Involved

The notary reviews the document, confirms the signer understands its implications, and notarizes it to make it valid.

Affidavits

Description

Creating and notarizing affidavits, written statements confirmed by oath or affirmation.

What's Involved

The notary checks the affidavit is completed correctly, witnesses the signer taking an oath, and notarizes it to affirm its legitimacy.

International Documents

Description

Notarizing documents intended for use outside Thailand, which typically require additional authentication before a foreign authority will accept them.

What's Involved

Thailand isn't yet part of the Apostille Convention, it acceded in mid-2026, but this only takes effect from 28 February 2027, so documents still need full consular legalization through the relevant embassy rather than a simple apostille. The notary prepares your documents to the standard this process requires.

Contracts and Agreements

Description

Notarizing contracts and agreements to strengthen their legal standing.

What's Involved

The notary reviews the contract, confirms the identity of each party, witnesses the signing, and notarizes it to support its enforceability.

Common mistakes and reasons for rejection

man stamps notary public at his desk
  1. Assuming any lawyer can act as a notary

Not every Thai lawyer is authorized to notarize documents. Only those specifically certified by the Lawyers Council as Notarial Services Attorneys can, worth confirming before you show up expecting notarization on the spot.

  2. Bringing only a copy instead of the original

Certified copies and verification services require the original document to check against. Showing up without it means starting over.

  3. Assuming notarization alone covers international use

Notarization and legalization are two separate steps. A notarized document usually still needs to go through legalization before a foreign authority will accept it.

  4. Leaving it until the last minute

Notarial needs are often deadline-driven, but the process, especially once legalization is involved, takes real time. Starting early avoids a costly scramble.

  5. Not confirming what the receiving country or institution actually requires

Requirements can vary by destination. What satisfies one country's authority may not satisfy another's, worth checking before assuming a standard notarization will do.

FAQs

Is a notary public in Thailand the same as in other countries?

Not exactly. Thailand doesn't have a separate notary public institution the way many countries do. Notarial services here are carried out by licensed lawyers who've completed special certification through the Lawyers Council of Thailand, known as Notarial Services Attorneys.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, we work on an appointment basis, though we work to accommodate urgent requests wherever we can.

What documents can be notarized?

Affidavits, powers of attorney, certified copies, and general document verification, among others.

Will my notarized document be accepted abroad?

It depends on the receiving country's requirements. We prepare documents to the standard the relevant authority actually needs, not just what looks correct on paper.

What do I need to bring?

A valid passport or government-issued ID, and the original document if you're having a copy certified. In-person appearance is typically required.

How long does notarization take?

Most straightforward notarizations can be completed in a single appointment.
