Thailand’s Cabinet today approved a 151 billion-baht economic stimulus package, underpinning 481 projects with a combined value of 157 billion baht to counter global headwinds by fast-tracking infrastructure, tourism and community-level initiatives .

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said 115.375 billion baht will fund immediate relief measures – chiefly water-management and road upgrades – while the remaining 35.625 billion baht targets longer-term structural investments. Of the total, 39.136 billion baht is earmarked to expand flood protection over 191,167 rai and boost water storage by 192.22 million cubic meters, and 45.864 billion baht for constructing 417 km of new roads, repairing 1,689 km of existing routes and enhancing safety at 3,604 points, with an estimated 285,000 direct jobs created .

Tourism will receive 10.053 billion baht to renovate key attractions, improve visitor facilities and install CCTV at popular sites, with officials projecting an influx of 2.76 million additional tourists and 55 billion baht in added economic value. Export competitiveness measures, totalling 11.122 billion baht, include agricultural support, workforce development programmes and a 10 billion-baht credit line for over 1,700 SMEs to preserve roughly 100,000 jobs. Community-economy schemes are allocated 9.201 billion baht, split between the National Village and Urban Community Fund and human-capital development in education, with a focus on lower-income regions, particularly the Northeast .

Pichai projected the package will generate 7.4 million jobs and lift Thailand’s GDP growth by 0.4 percent. “The action plan will effectively stimulate the economy in the short term by accelerating spending through immediate infrastructure development, which will create jobs, distribute income, and circulate money within the economic system,” he said. Oversight will be conducted by the Economic Stimulus Project Policy Committee, with each disbursement subject to verification by relevant agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and laws .
