Am I eligible for retirement visa in Thailand?

There are many types of Non-O visas available in Thailand. You can find a list of all Thai Non-O visas here. One of the  most popular types of Non-O Visa is the retirement visa. Retirement visas are easy to apply for, if you are over 50 years old and allow you to stay in Thailand hassle free. Retirement Visas do NOT allow you to obtain a work permit if you are considering working in the country.

Applying for a retirement visa in Thailand

Applying for a retirement visa is relatively straight forward as long as you qualify and have the correct documents. Retirement visas are valid for 90 days with extensions then available for those who qualify. Given that the time to process the NON-O Visa can take a few weeks we recommend applying at your local embassy before travelling to Thailand, however it is possible to apply for the Visa whilst in Thailand. Thai Retirement Visa (NON-O)

If you’re considering retiring in Thailand, you can apply for a Retirement Visa, categorized as NON-O Visa. To qualify, you must be over 50 years old at the time of application, possess no criminal record, and have permanent residency in your current country of residence. You should not suffer from certain diseases like Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, or third phase syphilis. Holders of this visa are not permitted to work in Thailand.

Required documents for retirement visa are as follows:

  • Passport (min. 6 months validity)
  • 3 copies of completed application form
  • 3 passport-sized photos (4 x 6cm)
  • A bank statement demonstrating a deposit of at least 800,000 Baht. (We can help you set this up. Call for details)
  • In the case where the accompanying spouse is not eligible to apply for the retirement visa, he or she will be considered for temporary stay under Category dependent Non-O visa.  A marriage certificate must be provided as evidence and should be notarised by the applicant’s diplomatic or consular mission.
